4. Thrive After Divorce

We can trust God to help us get past our difficult times

Tammy was absolutely deflated, a mess after her divorce. She had hired a shark to make her husband pay. She didn’t get the results she wanted; he didn’t really seem to have to pay. Yet she owes her attorney $20,000! She is also having such difficulty communicating with her ex about their children. There is turmoil and conflict.

Larry is doubting himself after his dissolution was over. He wondered if he would ever find true love. He was also doubting himself. He did not understand how he could have ended up divorced.

Moving on when the divorce is over is a tough one! It’s times like these where the rubber hits the road so to speak. If you have faith, then believe. Believe that God is always with you and wants you to thrive, to have a good life.

Romans 8:28 states: “We know that all things work for good for those who love God,* who are called according to his purpose.” So even if the divorce was not what you wanted, maybe even a mistake, the experience you had, the lessons you learned, can be used to serve God.

Romans 5:3-5 states: “Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us.” This means that not only can hardship of divorce can make you stronger, but you can hope in good things as well.

The good things will not just fall in your lap. You have to have this hope, the belief that good things will come as you start your new life. Neuroscience has also proven that if you believe in the good, the good will happen.

The first step is to gain an understanding of what happened to your marriage. It can be a good idea to work with a counselor post-divorce. If you are Catholic, you are fortunate because the annulment process, also known as declaration of nullity, will help you to do so at no cost. Healing from your marriage will take some work, but once you do so, you will ready to let all the good things God wants for you into your life.

I will have more articles on this site as to how you can thrive after divorce.
